Matthew Westerby Company is a New York-based contemporary dance company that blends athletic physicality with striking spatial design and a subtle, resonant connection to music. Led by British-American choreographer Matthew Westerby, the Company’s work is shaped by his experience as an LGBTQ+ immigrant New Yorker, grounding itself in a commitment to equity, inclusion and community, with an emphasis on creating human connection.This program features two powerful ensemble works, including nineteeneightyfour, created in collaboration with composer John P. Hastings, alongside a moving duet excerpt from City of Ashes, an intimate work reflecting on the AIDS crisis in New York City.
